My right elbow has more or less recovered, with just a bit of mild sting when I turn it at some angles. But overall I got my strength back.
I still can’t do martial arts for the time being, but at least I can still do gym to stay in shape.
I recently saw this promotion offered by Fitness Zone, you know, the gym opened by Wu Zhun. And so I decided to join the package for one year.
Oh boy… I’m already regretting it even though it’s just my second day there.
For starters this gym is more towards cardio than strength and muscle training, so basically it’s good for girls and guys who want to lose fat, but its not as efficient when it comes to building muscles as compared to the previous Harun’s Gym I went to. They have those dance and aerobic type classes but it’s not for me. A lot of equipment isn’t available when it comes to building the muscles of the entire body. I’m kinda disappointed on this even though the environment is nice and clean.
Maybe I’ll go back Harun’s Gym to train by pay per entry on weekends if I get any desperate.
But you know what annoys me the most? The incompetence and lack of knowledge of one of the trainers I came across. I don’t know about the rest, but the one I came across sure ticked me off.
On the first day, while waiting for my gym buddy to come, I was browsing through their range of supplements when this trainer came up to me. After a few questions and comparisons of the products, he suddenly said: “It depends on which one you would prefer, *Product A* is better for recovery, while *Product B* is better for GAINING FAT.
“Excuse me? Did you said GAINING FAT?” I asked.
“Yes. This is for GAINING FAT” He replied.
I looked at the label and it’s a MASS GAINER.
You have got to be kidding me… A trainer who can’t tell the difference between MASS and FAT??? Either he has no knowledge of the products he’s promoting, or he’s really bad in nutritional studies, or maybe both….
Today is my second day, and me and my gym buddy were training oblique (the side area of your waist). At a rate of 3 sets with 30 repetitions per set ranging from 30kg, 35kg and 40kg, it’s pretty high in resistance. Bear in mind we are training for muscles ok, not lose fat.
And what do you know? Halfway through our training the very same trainer that gave me doubts on the first day was patting my gym buddy’s arms and asked him to move aside.
“I’ll show you the proper way to do it”
He then switched our weights back to 10kg and did small twists where I’ve seen girls that can twist better than he did at a heavier weight.
“Do this position 10 times per side” He said proudly like a pro.
I was like, WTF??? A NOOB trainer telling us how to do gym? Moreover in light weights and in the wrong position and angle???
I looked at this trainer’s body figure and he was like… full of fats. Not even big in terms of the size of arms, chest or shoulder, and he sure has an obvious tummy.
I looked at myself in the mirror. I’m not very big in size but at least I have lean muscle and six packs.
AND HE’S TELLING ME HOW I’M SUPPOSED TO TRAIN???
I suddenly felt very insulted.
Not that I like to brag, but I do sufficient research and have enough experience to know enough of nutrition and bodybuilding posture and techniques. By the very least, I still have a fit body that I put lots of effort to train and I can be proud of that.
Tell me, would you feel convinced yourself to train under a trainer if he has a not-so-convincing body figure?
I WOULDN’T
Not in a million years. If trainers can’t even train themselves properly what are the chances can train others nicely? If you train in the wrong angle and position no mater how long and how much you do you’ll never get the results of people who train it well and efficiently.
There are only 2 kinds of people I would acknowledge as a trainer.
1) They are real bodybuilders who has participated and won competitions before. These people are experienced practical trainers. Follow their instructions, be disciplined in training yourself and you’ll do fine.
2) They are qualified trainers with degree certification in sports/fitness and nutrition. These people have the knowledge to get the type of body you want. Bear in mind, nutrition is something that should not be underestimated. Whether it’s to become big, lean or just plain fit heavily depends on your diet. Of course, you’ll need to exercise too.
Sigh… to think this is only my second day in Fitness Zone…
I still have a long year ahead of me to see what this gym has to offer…
